Start where you are. Learn something worth practising.
Martial arts for complete beginners and experienced students who want practical skills, a useful physical challenge and a friendly place to train. You do not need to get fit before your first class.
Your starting point
It is fine to be new at this.
Walking into a class where other people know what they are doing can feel awkward. We explain the task, pair people thoughtfully and give you something clear to work on. Nobody expects a beginner to know the terminology or get a movement right immediately.
Classes combine technique, pads, partner practice and fitness through training. You can ask questions and work at an appropriate pace. If you have an injury or concern that may affect participation, tell the instructor before class so the activity can be discussed.
What about contact and sparring?
You should know what you are agreeing to. We begin with controlled, cooperative partner work and introduce contact appropriately. Beginners are not thrown into open sparring. Competition is optional; there is plenty to learn without it.
Practical self-defence starts with awareness, judgement, distance, boundaries, leaving and getting help. Physical action is a last resort, and we teach control and decision-making alongside technique.
Learn techniques, practise with feedback and discover how to use them in changing situations.
Start at a sensible level and build your fitness and confidence through consistent training.
Work with a supportive group where improvement matters more than showing off.
Practical details
Three chances to train each week.
Classes are held at Royds Mill, 20 Calder Road, Mirfield, WF14 8PJ. Your first free class is a normal coached class; we will help arrange the second. Arrive a little early so we can welcome you and explain where to go.
Try two classes free. If you choose to join, the first month is £95, including your uniform and gloves. From month two, the programme is £75 per month for two coached classes each week. For families, the first two members pay £75 each per month; the third and each additional member pay £37.50 per month after their own £95 first month. The family discount applies to monthly fees only. A full sparring kit is a separate £95 purchase later, when appropriate.

Common questions
Before your first visit
Do I need to be fit or flexible first?
No. You can begin from your current level. Let us know about any relevant limits before class, and ask questions if a movement is unsuitable for you.
Will I be the only beginner?
Beginners join the normal coached class, and we explain what to do. You will not be expected to keep pace with somebody who has trained for years.
Do I have to spar or enter competitions?
No. Partner work is introduced with control and clear guidance. Competition is optional.
Come and see
Two classes give you time to find your feet.
